At the event opening, Yelzhan Birtanov stressed the importance of establishing the Center for Laboratory Testing (CLT) on the basis of the Nazarbayev University, which is a platform for scientific research and transfer of advanced technologies, as well as a center of attraction for many global companies and businesses.

Today, by opening the Center for Laboratory Testing within the walls of the Nazarbayev University, we are creating a modern competitive laboratory in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Space that meets international standards. The Center opening is a new step to control quality of medicines and medical products for prevention of counterfeit or falsified medical products in Kazakhstan, the minister said.

Moreover, the CLT will contribute to the expansion of methods for testing of medical devices. It will also help to achieve leading positions among expert organizations of the EES Member States, and most importantly, it will provide Kazakhstanis with quality, safe and effective medicines and medical products. The Center for Laboratory Testing includes 3 laboratories: physical-chemical, microbiological ones and a laboratory for testing medical devices with total area of more than 1500 sq.m. The laboratories are equipped with 250 units of the state-of-the-art equipment for examination and evaluation of quality and safety of medicines and medical devices.

It is expected that CLT specialists will annually conduct about 7000 laboratory tests of medicines and medical devices for 907 types of tests. In the future, the field of accreditation will cover about 120 items of medical products, including 21 pharmaceutical forms and 105 medical devices.

Currently there are 32 professionals working in CLT, 4 of them have academic degrees (1 PhD, 3 PhD); 12 employees studied and trained abroad, two of them are graduates of the “Bolashak” and “Nazarbayev University” programs.
